Frequently asked questions
How does the chin tie work?
It is worked into Rnd 10: after the last decrease you chain 16, turn back and work 14 hdc along the chain, so the tie comes off the hat with no extra sewing.
Why leave four stitches unworked in Rnd 7?
That gap forms the neck opening. Rnd 8 turns and works back across, which is what shapes the bonnet.
Will it fit an older baby?
It is sized for 9-18 months. For a bigger head, add one more increase round before Rnd 5 and work the straight rounds a little longer.
How do I keep the stem upright?
Stuff the stem firmly — the maker notes it needs stuffing for support — and slip a shaping wire into the leaf.
