A flat crocodile coaster that wraps around the base of a glass, with an open mouth, a red tongue and little three-toed feet. Worked with two strands of yarn on a large hook so it is thick and stable, and quick enough to finish in an evening.

Frequently asked questions

How do I size the body disc to my glass?

Rounds 1 to 4 give a 40-stitch disc; after that you keep adding rounds using the normal flat-circle increase rule until the disc matches the diameter of your own glass, then finish with a round of reverse single crochet.

How is the mouth made?

The upper jaw, lower jaw and a separate inner-mouth piece are held together and joined with a single round of single crochet worked all the way around, which holds the mouth open.

How are the toes made?

Each foot is a chain with three short chain-and-slip-stitch spurs worked off it, then single crochets for the leg.
