Frequently asked questions
What yarn works best for this coaster?
The pattern uses 5-ply milk cotton (the barrel type), but notes that 4-ply is sufficient. Cotton holds the round, flat shape well and is absorbent for use under cups.
How is the scalloped edge made?
The final round (Rnd 8) creates the scallops with a shell stitch: sc, skip 1, 5 dc in the same stitch, skip 1, repeated around and ending with a sc and sl st to join.
How do I join each round neatly?
After the last sc of the final round, sl st into the first sc of that round to close it; the dc rounds begin with a ch 2 to stand in for the first dc.
