Coll Crochet Net Hat
Original design by @陆十七knit
This Coll net hat is a lacy openwork hat worked from a doily-style crown in the round, alternating dc fan shells with chain-mesh arches down the body. It finishes with two long chain ties at the brim for a soft, romantic look.

Coll Crochet Net Hat — Symbol Chart This chart is the symbol-diagram companion to the written rounds (see the step photos / text). Worked flat in the round from a magic ring, increasing each round with dc clusters separated by chain spaces to form the lacy net. Rnd 1: MR, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 13 dc in ring, sl st to join (14) Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st base, *ch 1, skip the base ch, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, ch 1, skip base ch*, rep 6 times, sl st to join (28) Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc from first st, *(2 dc, dc) in next st*, rep 13 times, sl st to join — increase 14 times around (42) Rnd 4: Ch 3, *dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1 then (dc, ch 1, dc) group, ch 1*, rep around with 6 large groups, sl st to join (56) Rnd 5: 7-dc fans separated by increases, ch 3 start, *7 dc, 2 dc in next st*, rep 6 times, sl st (63) Rnd 6 onward: continue alternating 7-dc shell fans with single sc and ch-3 mesh arches around the crown, increasing as charted, then work straight rounds to shape the hat sides and a scalloped net brim, finishing with a chain tie (ch 90).
Notes
Worked flat in the round (doily-style crown) then shaped into a hat. Chart is the symbol version of the written pattern; cross-check stitch counts with the text rounds. Net effect comes from ch-1 / ch-3 spaces between dc groups.
Coll Crochet Net Hat — Crown Rounds 1-5 Rnd 1: Make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 13 dc in ring, sl st to join (14) Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), ch 1, dc in same first st, ch 1 (skip 1 base st); *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, ch 1 (skip 1 base st)*, rep 6 times, sl st to join (28) Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), starting in the first st: 2 dc; *(2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st)*, rep 13 times, sl st to join = increase every other st, 14 increases (42) Rnd 4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), ch 1, dc in first st, ch 1 (skip 1 base st), (dc, ch 1) twice; *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, ch 1, (dc, ch 1) twice*, rep 6 times, sl st to join (56) Rnd 5: [increase every 7th st, 7 times, starting from the first st] = ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in first st; *7 dc, 2 dc in next st*, rep 6 times, 7 dc, sl st to join (63)
Notes
Korean-language pattern (단 = round, 한길긴뜨기 = dc, 짧은뜨기 = sc, 사슬 = ch, 빼뜨기 = sl st, 매직링 = magic ring). 기둥코/코수포함 = turning ch counts as a stitch. Page 1 of 3 of the written hat pattern, with step photos.
Coll Crochet Net Hat — Crown Rounds 6-11 Rnd 6: Ch 1 (does NOT count as a stitch); *sc, ch 3 (skip 2 base sts)*, rep 20 times, sc, ch 1, dc in first st to join (21 ch-3 mesh arches) Rnd 7: Working into the ch-spaces: *in same ch-sp (8 dc), (sc, ch 3), sc*, rep 6 times; 8 dc in same sp, sc, ch 1, dc into first st to join — forms 7 dc-fan shells Rnd 8: *(dc, ch 1, sc in the post/leg of the dc) 7 times, dc, sc in ch-space*, rep 6 times; (dc, ch 3, sc in post of dc) 7 times, dc, sl st into the round's dc to join Rnd 9: Ch 3 (counts as a stitch); *ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of previous arch, ch 5, sc in 5th ch, ch 5, dc in center sc of motif*, rep 6 times; ch 5, sc in 3rd ch, ch 5, sc in 5th ch, ch 2, dc in first st to join Rnd 10: *ch 5, sc in center of ch-space*, rep 20 times, ch 2, dc in previous dc st to join Rnd 11: Working into the ch-spaces: *8 dc in space, (sc, ch 5), sc*, rep 6 times; 8 dc in space, (sc, ch 2), dc in previous dc to join
Notes
Korean pattern, page 2 of 3. 다리에 짧은뜨기 = sc into the post/leg of the dc; 사슬코부분 = into the chain space; 무늬중앙 = center of the motif. Rounds alternate 8-dc fan shells with ch-5 net mesh to build the lacy hat body.
Coll Crochet Net Hat — Crown Rounds 12-20 & Ties Rnd 12: *(dc, ch 3, sc in post of dc) 7 times, dc, sc in ch-space*, rep 6 times; (dc, ch 3, sc in post of dc) 7 times, dc, sl st into previous dc to join Rnds 13-19 (7 rounds total): Repeat the sequence of Rnds 9 through 12 in order, continuing the fan-and-net pattern down the hat Rnd 20: *(dc, ch 3, sc in post of dc) 7 times, dc, sc in ch-space*, rep 2 times; (dc, ch 3, sc in post of dc) 7 times, dc, sl st into center of ch-space; ch 90, ch 2 (turning ch), 90 dc back along the chain, sl st — makes the first tie Finishing tie: *(dc, ch 3, sc in post of dc) 7 times, dc, sc in ch-space*, rep 3 times; (dc, ch 3, sc in post of dc) 7 times, dc, sl st into previous dc; ch 90, ch 2 (turning ch), 90 dc back along the chain, sl st — makes the second tie
Notes
Korean pattern, page 3 of 3. Two ch-90 ties (each reinforced with a row of 90 dc) are added at the brim. Rnds 13-19 simply repeat the Rnd 9-12 block to lengthen the hat.

Frequently asked questions
How does the lacy net effect form?
The net effect comes from the ch-1 and ch-3 (and later ch-5) spaces worked between the dc groups. As the crown grows, 7- and 8-dc fan shells alternate with chain-mesh arches to create the openwork.
How do I lengthen the body of the hat?
Rounds 13 through 19 simply repeat the Round 9-12 block in order, continuing the fan-and-net pattern straight down. Work more repeats of that block if you want a longer hat.
How are the ties made?
At Round 20 and the finishing round, each tie is a ch 90 plus a turning ch, then 90 dc worked back along the chain and a sl st. This reinforces each ch-90 tie with a full row of dc so the ties hold their shape.
The chart uses Korean terms. What do they mean?
Key terms: 단 = round, 한길긴뜨기 = dc, 짧은뜨기 = sc, 사슬 = ch, 빼뜨기 = sl st, 매직링 = magic ring, and 기둥코/코수포함 = the turning chain counts as a stitch. Cross-check the symbol chart's stitch counts against the written rounds as you go.
