Strawberry Triangle Shawl — Openwork Lace with Fan Edging

Worked from the bottom point upward, increasing in width. Hook: size 3 (≈3.0 mm), pure white cotton.

Legend (from chart): o = ch, + = sc, T = dc, fan symbol = 3-dc increase (3 dc in one st).

Pattern
Begin at the bottom point (△ start) with a small group of dc.
The body is a repeating openwork lace: vertical columns of dc separated by ch arches, with 3-dc fans worked across the rows. Each row adds a unit of (dc columns + ch mesh + 3-dc fan), and the triangle widens by one motif each row.
Main repeat (read the chart row by row):
- Work columns of dc with ch-loops between them.
- Where the chart shows the fan symbol, work 3 dc in one stitch (the 3-dc fan) to form the scalloped lace.
- Continue the established pattern upward, adding a motif each row, until the shawl reaches the desired length.

Finishing
After the lace body is done, work one round of sc all around the edges.
Then add the fan edging: along the lower two sides work a border of 3-dc fans (as shown at the bottom of the chart) for a scalloped lace trim.

Notes

Hook: size 3 (~3.0 mm). Yarn: pure white cotton. Triangular shawl worked top-down from the point. Symbol chart legend: o = ch, + = sc, T = dc, the fan symbol = 3 dc in one st (3-dc fan). The Chinese maker enlarged the original to 8 motif repeats and steam-blocked it for better drape. Counts per row are not individually labeled — follow the chart visually; the repeat is dc columns + ch mesh + 3-dc fans, widening one motif per row.

Frequently asked questions

What hook and yarn does this shawl use?

A size 3 hook (about 3.0 mm) with pure white cotton yarn, which gives the lace good stitch definition.

How is the triangle shaped?

It's worked from the bottom point upward, adding one motif (a unit of dc columns, ch mesh, and a 3-dc fan) per row so the triangle widens as you go.

How do I make it larger?

Keep adding motif repeats per row until you reach the length you want. The maker enlarged the original to 8 motif repeats for a bigger wrap.

Do I need to block it?

Yes, blocking is recommended. The maker steam-blocked the finished shawl to open up the lace and improve the drape.
