Notes

Calcifer-inspired flame basket from Howl's Moving Castle. Worked with a 2.5mm hook in 4-ply cotton, three shades from yellow through orange to pink. Shorthand: x = sc, v = inc, a = dec, k1 = skip 1. Doubles as a holder for stitch markers and small notions.

Frequently asked questions

How are the flames made?

Each flame is a short-row triangle. You work part way along the rim, turn and decrease to a point, fasten off, then rejoin the yarn further along and repeat — eight times in total.

What does k1 mean in the chart?

It is the Chinese shorthand for skipping one stitch at the start of a turned short row.

How do the logs attach?

The five logs are stuffed and closed with a whip stitch seam, then glued or sewn to the underside of the basket so it sits like a campfire.
