Star Pet Collar — Ruffled Bandana with Star Charms

Collar
Rnd 1 (white): Ch 53. Starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, work *(hdc, 3 sc in one st), skip 2*, repeating across and finishing with (hdc, 3 sc in one st). The foundation chain is a multiple of 6 plus 5.
Rnd 2 (pale yellow): Turn and join the new colour, sc. From here on everything is worked into the gaps between the hdc groups of the previous round; take two gaps as one repeat and work (3 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc) and sc into them. After the last gap, work sc directly into the last dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn, sc, *into the ch-3 space of the previous round work (4 hdc, ch 3, 4 hdc), then sc into the sc of the previous round*, repeat around.
Rnd 4 (chick yellow): Start from the beginning of Rnd 3. Work BPdc into every dc, and work (3 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc) into each ch-3 space.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, turn, sc around, working (2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc) into each ch-3 space.

Ties
Ch 50, sl st all the way around Rnd 1, then ch 50. Fasten off.

Stars
Work in a magic ring: *(sc, ch 1, hdc, ch 2 picot, ch 1)*, repeat 5 times. Make several and sew them around the collar.

Notes

Ruffled collar for a cat or small dog, also works as a doll collar. Worked in 4-ply cotton with a 2.5mm hook in six colours. Shorthand: F = hdc, W = 3 sc in one st, Fw = hdc followed by 3 sc in one stitch, k2 = skip 2, x = sc.

Frequently asked questions

How long should the foundation chain be?

Any multiple of 6 plus 5 — the sample uses 53 chains, which fits a cat or small dog. Add or subtract 6 chains at a time to resize.

What is Fw in the chart?

It is Chinese shorthand for an hdc followed by 3 sc worked into one stitch; k2 means skip 2 stitches.

How are the ties attached?

Chain 50, slip stitch all the way around Rnd 1 of the collar, then chain another 50 so you have a tie at each end.

Can this be used as a doll collar?

Yes — the maker lists it under doll clothes as well, and the multiple-of-6 chain makes it easy to scale down.
