Star Pet Collar (Faux Bib) — Scalloped Layers with Star Charms

Worked in a multiples-of-6 repeat. Hook: 2.5 mm. Cotton in cream, light blue, sky blue, custard, goose-yellow, and chick-yellow.

Foundation (goose-yellow)
Rnd 1: Ch 55, work into the 4th ch from hook; *hdc, ch 2* 17 times across, end with 1 hdc (this sets the row of hdc with ch-2 spaces).

Body scallops
Rnd 2 (custard): Sc in the first dc, then work into the gaps between the hdc of the previous round — treating every two gaps as one unit, work (3 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc) in one gap and sc in the next; after the last gap, sc directly into the last dc.
Rnd 3 (white): Sc, *(4 hdc, ch 3, 4 hdc) in the ch-3 space of the previous round, sc in the sc of the previous round*, repeat around.
Rnd 4 (sky blue): Sc in each sc; work FPdc around each dc/hdc post; in each ch-3 space work (3 hdc, ch 3, 3 hdc).
Rnd 5 (light blue): Sc around; in each ch-3 space work (2 sc, ch-3 picot, 2 sc).

Tie
Tie cord (chick-yellow): ch 150.

Star charms
In a magic ring, work 5 groups of (sc, ch 1, hdc, ch-2 picot, ch 1); join and pull closed to form a 5-point star. Attach to the collar.

Notes

Hook: 2.5 mm. Cotton in 6 colors (cream, light blue, sky blue, custard, goose-yellow, chick-yellow). Sized in multiples of 6 — adjust foundation chain to fit. Layered scalloped 'faux bib' collar with FPdc texture round; finished with a ch-150 tie and small 5-point star charms. (Source chart uses 'Fw' for hdc and 'F' for hdc, 'k2' for ch 2.)

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize the collar to fit my pet?

The collar is worked in multiples of 6, so adjust the foundation chain up or down in increments of 6 stitches to fit your pet's neck before working the scalloped rounds.

What is the FPdc round for?

Round 4 (sky blue) works a front-post double crochet (FPdc) around each dc/hdc post. This adds raised texture and definition between the scalloped layers so the bib stands out instead of lying flat.

How are the star charms made and attached?

Each star is worked in a magic ring as 5 groups of (sc, ch 1, hdc, ch-2 picot, ch 1), then joined and pulled closed to form the 5 points. Sew the finished stars onto the collar wherever you like.

The chart uses unusual symbols. What do they mean?

The source chart uses 'Fw' and 'F' for hdc and 'k2' for ch 2. Read those as half double crochet and chain-2 respectively when following the diagram.
