A flat pony charm made from two identical crocheted panels joined with a round of single crochet and lightly stuffed, then finished with a dense dc mane, a chained tail and a small flower on the shoulder.

Crochet Pony Charm — Step 1: Two Horse Panels (Symbol Chart) Symbol key: + = sc, oval = ch, ∨ = 2 sc in one st (inc), ∧ = sc2tog (dec). Rows are numbered 1-24 up both sides of the chart. Working order marked on the chart ① Start point: make the foundation chain for the front leg and work Rows 1-5 up the leg. ② Fasten off at the top of the front leg. ③ Start again: make a second foundation chain for the back leg and work Rows 6-11 up that leg. ④ Join: at Row 11 connect the front leg to the back leg with a short chain across the belly and carry on across the whole width. Continue up through the body (Rows 11-17), then shape the neck and head (Rows 18-24), decreasing at the muzzle. ⑤ Finish at the top of the head and fasten off. Make two identical panels — one for each side of the horse.
Notes
The chart is worked in rows, turning each row. Rows 1-5 (orange on the chart) are the front leg, Rows 6-11 the back leg, and the two are joined before the body is worked. Two matching panels are needed.
Crochet Pony Charm — Step 2: Join with Single Crochet and Stuff Hold the two horse panels with wrong sides together and line up the edges. Starting at the top of the head (marked as the start point on the chart), work sc through both layers all the way around the outline of the horse: down the front of the face, along the neck, around the front leg, along the belly, around the back leg, up the rump and back along the top of the back to where you started. Before you close the last few stitches, stuff the body lightly through the gap so it stays flat but has a little body to it. Sl st into the first sc to join and fasten off, then weave in the end.
Notes
The sc edging is what turns the two flat panels into a padded charm, so keep the tension even and work one sc into each edge stitch. Stuff only lightly — this is meant to stay a flat charm, not a round toy.
Crochet Pony Charm — Step 3: Mane and Tail Mane Along the top edge of the neck, work 5 dc into each stitch. The dense cluster of tall stitches stands up on its own and makes the mane. Tail Join the yarn at the rump. Chain to the length you want the tail to be, then work a fan of dc into the last chain, sl st back down into the chain to secure it, and fasten off. Weave in all the ends and the charm is finished.
Notes
Both the mane and the tail are added after the body is joined and stuffed. Using a fluffy or mohair-blend yarn for the mane and tail gives the shaggy look in the sample photos.
Crochet Pony Charm — Flower Motif (Symbol Chart) Rnd 1 (centre): 6 sc in a magic ring (6) Rnd 2 (petals): *ch 2, work (2 tr, dtr, 2 tr) into the next stitch, ch 2, sl st into the next stitch*, repeat around to make 6 petals. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Sew the flower to the pony's neck where the mane meets the shoulder, as shown in the finished photos. Make a few in different colours to change the look.

Small six-petal flower motif used as the accent on the pony charm. Worked in a contrasting fluffy yarn in the sample.

How is the horse shaped?
Each panel starts with the front leg (Rows 1-5), fastens off, starts again for the back leg (Rows 6-11), then the two legs are joined at Row 11 and the body, neck and head are worked up to Row 24.
How much should I stuff it?
Only lightly. It is meant to stay a flat charm, so add just enough fill to give it a little body before closing the sc edging.
How is the mane made?
Work 5 dc into every stitch along the top edge of the neck — the crowded tall stitches stand up on their own.
How many panels do I need?
Two identical ones, held wrong sides together and joined with sc all the way around the outline.
