Monstera Leaf Charm — Chart 1 Ch 12. Starting in the second-to-last chain: ① sc, dc, ch 2 ② 2 sc, ch 4, pull the loop long and sl st into the 3rd stitch of ①, ch 1, then work (2 dc, 3 sc) into the large loop ③ 2 sc, ch 5, pull the loop long and sl st into the 3rd stitch of the large loop of ②, ch 1, then work (dc, 3 hdc, dc, 3 sc) into the large loop ④ 2 sc, ch 6, pull the loop long and sl st into the 5th stitch of the large loop of ③, ch 1, then work (5 hdc, dc, 3 sc) into the large loop ⑤ 2 sc, ch 6, pull the loop long and sl st into the 5th stitch of the large loop of ④, ch 1, then work (dc, 5 hdc, dc, 3 sc) into the large loop ⑥ (sc, ch 1, sc, sc), 10 sc; at the second-to-last sc repeat steps ①-⑤ to make the other half of the leaf. Finish the stem with ch 10 and weave in the ends.

Flat lacy monstera leaf charm. The elongated chain loops create the split-leaf holes. Worked in raffia or paper-cord yarn; the sample uses cotton-raffia for the cream and green leaves and raffia for the two-tone ones. Add a bead and a jump ring at the stem for a bag charm.

What makes the holes in the leaf?
Each step chains 4 to 6, pulls the loop long and slip-stitches back into an earlier stitch, creating a large loop that is then filled with stitches — that loop is the split in the leaf.
Is the leaf worked in one piece?
Yes. You work steps 1-5 up one side, then repeat them from the second-to-last sc to build the mirrored half, and finish with a 10-chain stem.
Which yarn works best?
Raffia and paper-cord yarns keep the leaf flat and crisp; a soft cotton will drape more and lose the shape.
